Cunningham Pier

I recently visited Geelong and the Cunningham Pier.
As someone who loves spending time by the water, I can confidently say that this pier is a must-visit for anyone in the Geelong area.
First of all, let me give you a little background on the pier itself. Cunningham Pier is located in the heart of Geelong and has a long and storied history. Originally built in 1859, the pier has been used for a variety of purposes over the years, from shipping and cargo to entertainment and recreation. Today, it’s a popular spot for fishing, walking, and taking in the beautiful views of the bay.
One thing I really love about Cunningham Pier is the atmosphere. There’s always a lively energy here, with people of all ages and backgrounds coming together to enjoy the waterfront. Whether you’re looking for a quiet spot to cast a line or a bustling place to people-watch, you’ll find it here.
One of the most popular activities on the pier is fishing, and it’s easy to see why. With plenty of space and a variety of fish to catch, it’s the perfect spot for both experienced anglers and beginners. Plus, the views of the water and the surrounding area are simply stunning.
If fishing isn’t your thing, don’t worry – there’s plenty of other things to do on the pier. You can take a leisurely stroll along the boardwalk, stopping to admire the local artwork and enjoy the fresh sea air. Or, if you’re feeling more adventurous, you can rent a kayak or paddleboard and explore the bay on your own.
Of course, no visit to Cunningham Pier would be complete without stopping at one of the many restaurants and cafes in the area. From fresh seafood to delicious coffee, there’s something for everyone here. Personally, I love grabbing a coffee and a pastry and sitting outside to watch the boats go by.
Now, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention some of the less positive aspects of Cunningham Pier. Some reviewers have noted that the area can get crowded, especially on weekends and during the summer months. Others have mentioned that the pier can be a bit noisy, with boats and other watercraft coming and going throughout the day. However, I would argue that these are all part of the charm of the pier – it’s a vibrant and bustling place that truly captures the spirit of Geelong.
If you’re looking for a fun and memorable way to spend an afternoon in Geelong, you can’t go wrong with Cunningham Pier. Whether you’re a seasoned angler or just looking for a beautiful spot to relax, you’re sure to find something to love here. So pack a picnic, grab your fishing gear, and head on down to the pier – you won’t regret it! Also check out National Wool Museum.
