The Carousel

The Carousel at Geelong
The Carousel

I recently visited sunny Geelong and The Carousel.

Hello there! Are you planning a trip to Geelong and wondering what to do in the area? Well, let me tell you about one of my favourite attractions – the Geelong Carousel!

Firstly, let me tell you, the location is unbeatable. Overlooking the beautiful Corio Bay, the modern sail-like steel and glass pavilion that houses the carousel is a sight to behold. It’s hard not to be in awe of the stunning views, especially when you’re surrounded by beautifully restored horses and carriages that are just begging to be ridden.

Speaking of the horses and carriages, they are painted in bright colours and are truly a work of art. As someone who appreciates beautiful craftsmanship, I was in awe of the attention to detail that has gone into restoring these pieces. The horses and carriages are so intricately designed that they almost look like they could come to life and take off on their own!

But let’s not forget the music! The historic pipe organ is the heart and soul of the carousel, and it plays a collection of Dixieland melodies that will get you tapping your feet and singing along in no time. I couldn’t help but feel cheerful and happy when the music started playing, and I’m sure you will too.

Now, I know what you’re thinking – “Isn’t this just an attraction for kids?” Well, let me tell you, it’s not just for kids. Sure, the children were very excited to be on the carousel, but as an adult, I had just as much fun. There’s something about being on a beautifully restored carousel that takes you back to a simpler time and brings out the childlike wonder in all of us.

One of the things I appreciated about the Geelong Carousel is that it’s a great activity in all weather. As someone who’s been caught in a downpour or two, I can tell you that the fact that it’s housed in a glass building is a huge plus. And if you need to wait for the next ride, there are plenty of chairs and sitting areas available.

Of course, no attraction is perfect. While the Geelong Carousel takes up a significant position on the waterfront, it is a little separated from the rest of the oceanfront area due to its enclosure. But honestly, I didn’t mind that at all. It gave me an excuse to spend more time admiring the stunning views and appreciating the beauty of the carousel.

Now, let’s talk about the price. At $5 per child, it’s definitely a steal. And you can pay by card, which is always a plus in my book. There is a short wait of about 10 minutes between rides, but honestly, that gives you more time to appreciate the beautiful surroundings and chat with your fellow carousel riders.

In conclusion, the Geelong Carousel is an attraction that I would highly recommend to anyone visiting the area. It’s beautiful, entertaining, and a great way to bring out your inner child. Hop on the carousel and enjoy the ride! I also suggest a visit to the Geelong Gallery.
