Bathers Way Coastal Walk
I recently took a trip to Newcastle and was delighted to discover the Bathers Way Coastal Walk. This walk spans about 6 kilometers, linking Merewether Ocean Baths with Nobbys Beach, and it is one of the most beautiful coastal walks I have ever taken.
One of the best things about the Bathers Way is that it offers something for everyone. The path is wide and easy to navigate, with only a few stairs and inclines that may pose a challenge for those with mobility issues. And, if you don’t feel like doing the entire walk, you can choose to do sections of it.
Along the walk, you will find plenty of cafes, eateries, and restaurants, making it a great place to stop for a bite to eat or a cup of coffee. One of the highlights of the walk is the historic King Edward Park, where you can take in the beautiful scenery and see the WW11 gun turrets. The park offers a serene atmosphere, and you can take a break and have a picnic or relax for a while. (Another great picnic location is Blackbutt Reserve).
One of the unique features of this walk is the variety of views, architecture, and landscape. From Nobbys Beach to the heritage-listed Newcastle Baths, there is something for everyone along this walk. The ANZAC Bridge offers some of the most spectacular views of the coastline and is a great place to take pictures.
If you’re a history buff, you will enjoy seeing the ANZAC Bridge and the statues and plaques that commemorate the soldiers who fought in World War I and II. You will also pass by the legendary Bogey Hole, where you can take a swim and cool off on a hot day.
One thing to note is that some sections of the path are still under construction, so you may encounter detours along the way. However, the finished path is wide and well-maintained, and the detours are clearly marked.
Overall, the Bathers Way Coastal Walk is a must-do activity for anyone visiting Newcastle. It offers a great way to experience the fantastic coastline and beaches of Newcastle, with plenty of places to stop and relax along the way. Whether you’re looking for a leisurely stroll or a more challenging hike, this walk has something for everyone.
Kind regards,
