Newcastle Memorial Walk

I recently had the pleasure of experiencing the stunning Newcastle Memorial Walk, and let me tell you, it did not disappoint! The 10km return walk is certainly not for the faint of heart, with a few big hills to tackle, but the views along the way are well worth the effort.
Starting from the southern end and making my way towards the city, I was immediately struck by the informative displays detailing the ANZAC history that the walk is dedicated to. The Anzac statues with the names of veterans engraved were a touching tribute and served as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by those who fought for our country.
As I continued along the boardwalk, the breathtaking views of the city, beaches, and ocean just kept coming. On a clear day, the 360-degree views are truly spectacular and rival some of the best coastal walking trails in the country. I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the opportunity to take in such a stunning landscape and the fact that it was all completely free!
One thing to keep in mind is that the walk can be quite hot on a sunny day, so it’s important to bring plenty of water. I made sure to pack a couple of bottles and was grateful for them when I reached some of the higher points on the walk. The good news is that there are plenty of spots along the way to stop and rest, grab a bite to eat, or even take a dip in the ocean to cool off.
Speaking of spots to rest, I highly recommend taking advantage of the option to park at the top to avoid some of the stairs. While the boardwalk itself is relatively easy going, the initial climb up the hill from the carpark can be a bit of a challenge. I, for one, was happy to skip those stairs and save my energy for the walk ahead!
All in all, I cannot recommend the Newcastle Memorial Walk enough. It’s a fantastic way to experience the beauty of Newcastle’s coastline while also learning about the ANZAC history that the walk is dedicated to. Just make sure to bring water, wear comfortable shoes, and be prepared to tackle a few hills along the way. Trust me, the views are well worth the effort! Not enough? have a look at the Bathers Way Coastal Walk if you need more walking action.
Kind regards,
