The Steampacket Gardens
I recently visited diverse Geelong and the Steampacket Gardens as it’s one of my favourite spots to relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery.
The gardens are situated right on the water’s edge, adjacent to the iconic Cunningham Pier. The open space is lined with trees around the edges, making it a perfect spot for a picnic or just to lie down and soak up some sun. The view of the harbour is stunning, and the gentle breeze from the sea makes the place even more refreshing.
The gardens are perfect for those who love outdoor activities. You can take a stroll around the area and explore the numerous sculptures that are scattered around the gardens. The bollards, which are a symbol of Geelong, are also located in this area. These are giant wooden structures painted in bright colours, representing the history and culture of the city. I love taking pictures with them; it’s like having famous friends who are always up for a selfie!
If you are looking for more excitement, head over to the skate park, which is right next to the gardens. You can watch the local skaters show off their skills or bring your own skateboard and try some tricks yourself. Just make sure you wear protective gear and don’t embarrass yourself in front of the pros.
The Eastern Beach precinct is just a short walk away from the gardens. You can’t miss it; it’s the place with the giant Ferris wheel. The beach itself is a popular spot for swimming and sunbathing, and the promenade offers stunning views of the sea. There are plenty of cafes and restaurants around, so you can grab a bite to eat and take in the scenery.
One of my favourite things about Steampacket Gardens is the cleanliness and tidiness of the area. I never have to worry about stepping on litter or seeing unsightly garbage bins around. It’s refreshing to see that the Geelong Council and visitors take pride in the appearance of this lovely spot.
I also love the fact that there’s always something new to explore at Steampacket Gardens. The new wave actuator is a fun addition to the area, and the floating Christmas tree during the holiday season is a sight to behold.
In conclusion, Steampacket Gardens is a must-visit spot if you’re in Geelong. The stunning location, plethora of outdoor activities, and nearby amenities make it a great place to relax and unwind. Just be prepared to take lots of selfies with the bollards and maybe try your luck at skateboarding. Trust me; it’s more challenging than it looks! Next check out the Bellarine Rail Trail!
