Nobbys Beach

As I walked along the water bridge at Nobbys Beach, I couldn’t help but appreciate the stunning views of Newcastle. The beach has a lot to offer, including an off-leash area where you can watch dogs running around in pure joy. If you’re looking for a quiet spot to relax, head towards the lighthouse, where you’ll find a lovely beach with sand dunes. The parking area is spacious enough for long vehicles, so you won’t have to worry about finding a spot to park.
Nobbys Beach is not only a great spot to relax, but it’s also ideal for swimming. The annual Nobbys Beach to Newcastle ocean swim race of about 2.2kms is held here and swimmers find the water perfect for the event. With lifeguards on duty, you can rest assured that you’ll be safe as you enjoy the crystal-clear waters.
If you’re looking for a family-friendly spot, Nobbys Beach is perfect for you. The playgrounds and basketball hoop will keep the kids entertained, while you relax on the grassy area around the precinct. There’s also a lovely cafe that serves good coffee and takeaway food, so you can enjoy a quick snack as you take in the beautiful views.
But did you know that Nobbys Beach is also home to a legendary kangaroo? According to the local Awabakal people, a male kangaroo was banished from the kangaroo group after attacking a female wallaby. He swam to Nobbys Island and entered the tall rocky outcrop, where he’s been hiding ever since. The story goes that he’s still there to this day, jumping around and causing earthquakes when he gets upset. I cannot be certain of the details but this interesting tale is worth researching and considering when in the area… perhaps more information is available at The Newcastle Museum?
As a regular visitor to Nobbys Beach, I can attest to its beauty and versatility. With several surfing locations, including the wedge, the spit, the reef, the bank, and the groper, surfers can find good waves when conditions are right. The beach is patrolled by council lifeguards and surf club volunteers all year round, so it’s a safe spot for water sports.
Overall, Nobbys Beach is a must-visit spot if you’re in Newcastle. With its breathtaking views, clear waters, and friendly community, it’s a great place to relax and soak up the sun.
Kind regards,
